How To Cram FOUR Years Work Into Just One Year!

In October 2016, I was fortunate enough to read The 12 Week Year by Brian P. Moran and Michael Lennington. It took me about three weeks to read it, cramming a few pages in here and there as and when I could, but it never lost my interest as I am a productivity hack geek myself! Suffice it to say that this book made a serious impression on me, and I implemented their systems into my life starting October 1st 2016, and let me tell you, that first 12 Week Year was something of a rocket ship ride!

It’s not just about cramming as much into your to-do list as possible, but rather establishes the mindset needed to ‘prioritize victoriously’. Sure, it makes use of similar strategies to the like of Brian Tracey’s Eat That Frog, but it’s more than just getting your top priority done and dusted before anything else. It’s about laying out your plans in a manner that allows you to break them down into manageable, achievable, bite-sized pieces – and then TAKING ACTION! I’d be lying if I said this book wasn’t ultimately a collection of common sense, but much of it is backed by scientific research, and there are a few surprises here and there!

So, what did The 12 Week Year do for me? Or rather, what was I able to achieve in Q4 2016 using the concepts and systems presented by The 12 Week Year?

  • Integrated a morning ritual into my life (courtesy of The Miracle Morning) which included a daily cardio regimen
  • Walked 8,500 steps per day
  • Lost 2 stones (28 pounds, or about 14 kilos)
  • Reduced my HbA1c long-term blood glucose levels from 9.6 to 5.8 (6 is normal, and I was Type-II Diabetic)
  • Reduced my liver enzymes from 76 to 32 (40 is normal, and I was showing early signs of liver disease)
  • Paid off over £14,000 in credit card debt
  • Arranged a surprise 50th Birthday Party for my wife – in the U.S. (the flight tickets were her Christmas gift)
  • Booked a personal retreat-type vacation in Egypt for some Winter sun in January (with scuba diving, spa days, and so on)
  • Completed many business projects and smashed several key business goals
  • And that’s just the start!

It’s important to understand that I am only sharing all of this so that you understand why I believe the principles taught in The 12 Week Year to be so effective. For me, they were truly life changing. And I complemented the techniques I learned with those from other books (which I read during those 12 weeks) to continually accelerate my productivity. I think it’s fair to say that in my first ever 12 Week Year, I did indeed accomplish what many people take more than a year to do, and can confirm that the book lives up to its name (IF you do the work, and take ACTION!)
